Fred Pfeil, 1949-2005
PMC notes with sadness the death late in 2005 of Fred Pfeil. Fred was a long-standing editorial board member of the journal. He
was seriously and unassumingly committed to his work and to social justice. He read with care, and his comments were always
detailed, informed, and useful. Once when Fred was invited by the graduate students at NC State to keynote at a conference, he
chose for lunch a downtown restaurant with long wooden tables. It was upstairs from an empty warehouse. He explained that he
bought his clothes at Goodwill stores because there were too many consumer products already in circulation. That night he gave
an excellent talk. We miss and remember him.
